The following projects and priorities were discussed at the August 9, 2026, HDAC meeting. Some remain under consideration or are awaiting further action. Information will be updated as plans develop and decisions are made.

Neighborhood Street and Weed Maintenance

Status: In Progress

HDAC is following up with city officials regarding weed removal, street cleaning, and other maintenance needs on Independence Street and elsewhere in the neighborhood. The committee has also expressed appreciation for recent improvements completed along Columbia Street.

Neighborhood Conditions and Code Enforcement

Status: Ongoing

HDAC continues to monitor concerns involving neglected or vacant properties, illegal dumping, weeds, trash receptacles left on sidewalks, and other property-maintenance issues. The committee encourages residents to provide specific addresses or locations when reporting concerns so that city personnel can investigate effectively.

City Follow-Up and Neighborhood Priorities

Status: In Development

HDAC is preparing a concise list of neighborhood priorities for its October 30, 2026, follow-up meeting with city officials. The presentation will recognize work already completed while identifying important matters that remain unresolved.

National Register Nomination

Status: Under Review

The nomination package for placing the Dumbhundred Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places has been completed and forwarded to the Maryland Historical Trust for the next stage of review. HDAC will continue monitoring its progress.

Henderson Avenue Guardrail

Status: Continuing Advocacy

HDAC continues to advocate for improvements to the Henderson Avenue guardrail, emphasizing its importance to public safety as well as neighborhood appearance. The city engineer is examining the requirements and possible approaches for addressing the guardrail.

Neighborhood Property Survey

Status: Under Consideration

The committee is considering an informal neighborhood walk-through to identify properties that appear vacant, deteriorated, or in need of attention. Such a survey could help HDAC better understand neighborhood conditions and identify broader patterns requiring attention.

Home Rehabilitation Information

Status: 

HDAC has posted information, with hyperlinks to official city webpages about City of Cumberland programs that may assist qualifying homeowners with roof repairs, accessibility improvements, aging-in-place modifications, windows, doors, and other residential rehabilitation needs.
